what we believe

We are united in our commitment to be at one with God and to share His love in the community

Our Ethos

Hope is a church where people are encouraged to reach for their potential and build character.

Where soul and mind are nourished through friendship, teaching and training in an atmosphere of God’s Spirit and harmony.

We are a church united in our commitment

to be at one with God

and to share His love in the community.

Our Focus

Hope is a church near Abergavenny, that serves the village of Gilwern and the surrounding area. Around Abergavenny, as with most of the country, the percentage of younger men that attend church is very low.

When we plan the activities of the church we actively focus on the
needs and attitudes of the ‘younger family man’.
By making this choice we are not excluding any
other groups but we are purposefully
addressing an imbalance.

We are a church family that caters for all ages, but our outreach will be focused and we adapt the style of our public Sunday services to be relevant to the needs of this generation.

Because we want to leave behind a legacy to our children and not just concentrate on ourselves we have adopted a style that is evolving to suit younger as well as older people.

It can be described as church Radio 2 style – relaxed, middle of the road and appealing to the majority.

As Hope Baptist Church Gilwern is part of the Baptist Union in the UK and Wales, we adhere to the Declaration of Principle for all Baptist Churches:

  1. That our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His Laws.

  1. That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, who “died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried, and rose again the third day.”

  1. That it is the duty of every disciple to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelization of the world.

As an evangelical church, we also profess the following statements of faith as summarised by the Evangelical Alliance UK.
